Higher Revision

 

To adequately prepare for both papers, you need to revisit all texts covered and revise Close Reading.

 

Critical Essay

 

1.      Learn your quotes: I would suggest around 12 for longer texts (i.e. Gatsby/DOAS). With regards to poetry, it won’t do any harm to learn the whole thing.

      Make sure that you are aware of character, setting, themes, key techniques, important scenes/sections of the texts (including openings and endings). Revisit PPTs that include key sections of texts to pick out the key quotes.

2.      Plan out essays

3.      Write essays under timed conditions – anything you produce after the holidays will be marked.

 

 

Close Reading

 

1.      Revise techniques required to answer questions.

2.      Practice past papers – available on blog and SQA website.

3.      Read broadsheets over the holidays – recommended writers are Mark Steel and Charlie Brooker (they might even amuse you).

 

Note that final questions on CR papers might not be up to date (pre-2012). It should be a 5 mark U/E question. You can practice by coming up with the 3 points the authors agree/disagree on.

Additionally, make a note of anything you are uncertain of so that we can go over it after the holidays

Apologies for my absence

Huge apologies for my absence. I shall try to be back at school as soon as possible. In the meantime, please send any essays/folio/revision work to me via e-mail. I shall try to mark digitally and will send back to you.

There are marked Higher folio essays to be collected from my desk. Please re-draft asap.

DOAS notes are now up on blog- please check. I would like at least one DOAS essay completed by Thursday and either left for me or sent to me!

I highly advise pracitising Gatsby, Donne and Glasgow Sonnet (1) essays as well.

S4- I look forward to recieving your redrafts and personal reflectives on my return.

S2- good luck with group novel/Macbeth work.

S1- Looking forward to reading and marking your stories- make sure they are scary and horrible!

Higher T.A. NAB

Good luck to all of my Higher pupils in their T.A. NAB tomorrow. Please check close-reading and T.A. notes on blog. There are new things now up/added to the old.

Death of Salesman reading MUST be completed over the weekend and I look forward to hearing your answers from discussion questions on Monday.

A huge good luck to my Higher candidates who are due to sit their prelims shortly.


All essays handed in have now been marked and are in the poly pocket attached to your notice-board in my room- please collect.


Creative/personal first drafts need to be handed in asap. Folio uplift is end of March so we need to make sure we get back on track with this!
